TFD Responds to Residential Structure Fire on Lake Atkinson Drive

May 19, 2024

On May 19, at 11:31 a.m., the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a structure fire located on Lake Atkinson Drive. TFD crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire coming from a residential structure. TFD personnel quickly began extinguishing the fire while protecting the surrounding area. Firefighters searched the structure and found no people inside, but two dogs did pass away in the fire. The cause of the fire appears to have been from unattended cooking. There were no injuries reported on scene.

The Tallahassee Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Leon County Sheriff's Office, Leon County EMS, Talquin Electric Cooperative and the Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department. The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the residents.

The Tallahassee Fire Department urges all residents to remain vigilant while cooking and to never leave food unattended on the stove. If you must leave the kitchen, turn off the stove, and make sure to set a timer to remind you that you're cooking. Further, please ensure that smoke alarms are installed and functioning properly in your home. Test them monthly to ensure they are in proper working condition.
