VAL Art Talk

The Visual Art League of Lewisville presents Art Talk photographer Tim Martin, who will talk about the art and science behind astrophotography, on Tuesday, April 9, 7 p.m., at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.

Martin will share how he captures images with a telescope and some of the technical processes and challenges involved. He will be going more in depth on the subjective aspects such as framing, storytelling, messaging, choosing and creating color palettes, applying saturation, and injecting contrast to reveal the beauty and true nature of objects in the cosmos in an artistic and aesthetically pleasing way.

Martin is a retired attorney who lives in Lewisville with his artist wife Christi Martin. He spends most of his time doing astrophotography, traveling, and visiting their daughter who lives in Stockholm. He's had a lifelong interest in astronomy and aerospace and is ecstatic that he now has time to study it more deeply.

The Visual Art League of Lewisville is one of eight local groups receiving funding from the City of Lewisville through a grant program designed to foster cultural and fine arts in the community.

The Grand is Lewisville's home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events, including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.

To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center.

For details about upcoming events, or rental information for the facility, please visit LewisvilleGrand.com or call 972.219.8446.

This event is consistent with recommendations in the "Old Town" and "Identity, Place, and Communications" Big Moves of the Lewisville 2025 vision plan. The plan can be viewed at cityoflewisville.com/Lewisville2025.
