Ecopetrol, PdV could partner on oil, gas: Petro

Colombian president Gustavo Petro said state oil company Ecopetrol may soon partner with Venezuelan state oil company PdV, while his Venezuelan counterpart said the country may import Colombian electricity.

Petro did not provide details of the possible oil and gas projects in Venezuela during a visit to Caracas over the weekend, but president Nicolas Maduro said Colombian power may flow to the states of Amazonas, Tachira and Zulia.

Petro has mentioned such Venezuelan oil and gas projects repeatedly since taking office in 2022.

During the meeting Petro also said he suggested to the US it make "economic stabilization" payments to Venezuelan migrants if they stop in Colombia instead of continuing on to the US. He did not provide details of when he made the recommendation.
