WORKING VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF MALAYSIA YB DATO' SERI DIRAJA DR ZAMBRY ABD KADIR TO NEW DELHI, INDIA

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Dato' Seri Diraja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, will undertake a Working Visit to New Delhi, India, from 6 to 7 November 2023. During the visit, YB Foreign Minister is scheduled to co-chair the Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) with his counterpart, Minister of External Affairs India, His Excellency Dr S. Jaishankar.

The Meeting that is scheduled to take place on 7 November 2023 will be the sixth in the series of the JCM between Malaysia and India. The last JCM was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2011.

During the Meeting, both Foreign Ministers will deliberate on existing bilateral and potential cooperation as well as exchange views on regional and international matters of mutual interest. Economic, defense, energy, connectivity, health, education, tourism and broadcasting are among sectors of cooperation to be discussed.

Both Foreign Ministers will also witness the signing of several documents as follows:

i. Memorandum of Understanding regarding Cooperation in Broadcasting between Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and India's Prasar Bharti;
ii. Exchange of Notes between Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) and Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) on cooperation in the Field of Training of Diplomats; and
iii. Letter of Intent between Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism (SEARCCT) and Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) pertaining to Cooperation in the Field of Academic Research.

YB Foreign Minister is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Republic of India, His Excellency Jagdeep Dhankhar. Both parties will discuss regional and international issues, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Bound by robust economic partnership and close people-to-people ties, Malaysia and India share a long-standing and substantive relationship. In 2022, India was Malaysia's 11th largest trading partner with total trade amounting to RM86.22 billion (USD19.63 billion), an increase of 23.6 per cent compared to the recorded value in 2021. The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations of the two countries.
