1Leisure free taster sessions will be up for grabs at a careers event at Medina Leisure Centre later this month.

As part of the Isle of Wight Open for Business event, the Isle of Wight Council will be opening its doors on Saturday 23 March for people to find out more about jobs and careers at the local authority.

From planners to park rangers, solicitors to social workers, lawyers to leisure managers, collectively the teams within the council look after the residents' quality of life, health, education, homes, streets, and so much more.

Sharon Hartill, the council's HR operations manager, said: "Working for the council is more exciting than you might imagine, it offers more variety than you think and more freedom to reach your potential than you ever thought possible.

"The council has a team with diverse skills, backgrounds and experiences, which works together to make the Island a great place to live, work and visit.

"If you are looking for a career with purpose, working at the council enables you to play a key part in improving the lives of the people on the Island through making a difference within the Isle of Wight community."

The Isle of Wight Open for Business Day is an initiative from Solent Partners Careers Hub, HTP Apprenticeship College, Island Careers Partnership and The Isle of Wight College, along with a range of local businesses and organisations.

The aim is to give young people and those looking for new careers an opportunity to take a closer look at a variety of businesses based on the Island.

To find out more about jobs and careers at Isle of Wight Council, take this opportunity to meet the teams at the 1Leisure Medina, Fairlee Road, Newport on Saturday 23 March from 10am to 2pm. There will also be prizes up for grabs including 1Leisure free taster sessions.

Councillor Jonathan Bacon, Cabinet member for corporate function including HR, added: "The council offers a rewarding and challenging variety of careers along with opportunities for career progression as well a range of flexible hours, plenty of ongoing training and development, great teamwork, and supportive management.
