Everyone Invited To The Las Vegas Helldorado Days Parade May 11

Parade Starts On Fourth Street Downtown At 10 A.M. Saturday

The annual Helldorado Days Parade is set for this Saturday, May 11, starting at 10 a.m. downtown on Fourth Street from Gass Avenue to Stewart Avenue. This year's parade will feature 107 entries, including horse groups, 10 marching bands, car clubs, colorful dance groups, Zelzah Shriner flivver cars and more! There will be additional shade for spectators by the grandstand on Fourth Street, and free swag available to those who attend. See the map for parade route, grandstand, staging areas and available parking lots.

A committee will judge the entries during the parade and $500 prizes will be awarded for the best marching band and for the best historic Las Vegas-themed float.

Parade entries are expected to represent the diversity of the city and our unique history. Cultural and historical groups and organizations, schools, artists, car/motorcycle clubs and service organizations are expected to participate. The Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial, which sponsors the parade, offered $1,000 for local school marching band entries and $1,500 for quality local school float entries, limit of two parade entries per school. The Commission also offered $1,000 to local artists whose entry is reflective of Las Vegas life and history.

The Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial is celebrating the season with a new documentary, "The Road to Helldorado Days." The film is available online. Funded by a grant from the Commission, the new film by Heather Caputo Productions documents the history of Helldorado Days, from its beginnings as a tourist attraction in 1935 to fund a new Elks Lodge, until today.

May 15 is the 119th anniversary of the land auction in 1905, which marks the beginning of Las Vegas. For more information on the Helldorado Days Parade, call 702.229.4859 or visit www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Helldorado.
