Te Fare Iamanaha - Musée de Tahiti et des Îles (MTI) a été sollicité par la National Gallery of Australia pour participer à une exposition et rétrospective de l'œuvre de Paul GAUGUIN.

Cet événement majeur est prévu à la National Gallery of Australia (NGA) à Canberra, du 28 juin au 7 octobre 2024, puis du 3 novembre 2024 au 16 février 2025, au Museum of Fine Arts de Houston, Texas. Il sera officiellement annoncé par la NGA, le 22 novembre 2023.

Les principaux interlocuteurs du Pays pour cette exposition sont le Directeur de la NGA, Nick MITZEVICH, le commissaire de l'exposition, Henri LOYRETTE et Carol HENRY, Directrice exécutive de Art Exhibitions Australia, organisme qui finance l'opération à titre principal.

Parmi les soixante-dix institutions ayant consenti au prêt d'œuvres de Paul GAUGUIN, se trouvent plusieurs collections nationales : le musée d'Orsay, la National Museum of Hungary, le musée Thyssen Bornemisza de Madrid, le Louvre Abu Dhabi, le Museo del Arte de Sao Paulo-Assis Chateaubriand, ainsi que des collectionneurs privés japonais et une série de musées américains : The Museum of Modern Art de New York, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The J-P Morgan Library, The Guggenheim Museum, The Getty Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The National Gallery of Art of Washington D.C.

Cette ambitieuse exposition prévoit la présentation de plus de 130 œuvres de Paul GAUGUIN, dont une cinquantaine de peintures, sculptures, œuvres graphiques sur papier, céramiques, et autres. La Polynésie française, par le biais du Te Fare Iamanaha - Musée de Tahiti et des Îles, a été sollicitée pour le prêt d'une sélection d'œuvres appartenant à ses collections : un panneau en bois, trois cuillères sculptées et quatre objets des Îles Marquises : un pū taiana, un ivi po'o, un ti'i et un manche d'éventail tāhi'i.

Accompagnant l'événement, un catalogue regroupant des articles d'une série d'experts et auteurs, dont des Polynésiens, sera publié.

Éliane TEVAHITUA, Vice-Présidente, ministre de la Culture, de l'Enseignement supérieur, de l'Environnement, du Foncier et de l'Artisanat, en charge des Relations avec les Institutions, souhaite mener une politique de coopération régionale, notamment dans le domaine culturel. Ainsi, le Pays a exprimé son intérêt pour cette exposition qui permettra de renforcer les liens entre l'Australie et la Polynésie française, ainsi qu'entre leurs institutions culturelles respectives.

La Vice-Présidente, accompagnée d'une délégation de représentants culturels, sera présente au vernissage de l'exposition à Canberra, le 27 juin 2024, où la présence du Premier Ministre australien, Hon. Anthony Albanese, est pressentie. Le Service de l'artisanat est également mobilisé pour organiser l'acheminement vers la boutique de la NGA d'une sélection d'objets d'artisanat d'art Polynésiens destinés à achalander la boutique de la NGA durant toute l'exposition.

Cet événement donnera l'occasion à la Polynésie française d'être représentée sur le sol australien, puis aux États-Unis d'Amérique, tout au long des années 2024 et 2025.

Te Fare Iamanaha -Musée de Tahiti et des Îles has been asked by the National Gallery of Australia to take part in an exhibition and retrospective of the work of Paul GAUGUIN.

This major event is scheduled to take place at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA.) in Canberra, from 28 June to 7 October 2024, then from 3 November 2024 to 16 February 2025, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas. It will be officially announced by the NGA on 22 November 2023.

The country's main contacts for this exhibition are the Director of the NGA, Mr Nick MITZEVICH, the exhibition curator, Henri LOYRETTE and Ms Carol HENRY, Executive Director of Art Exhibitions Australia, the organisation that is primarily funding the operation.

Among the seventy institutions that have agreed to loan works by Paul GAUGUIN are several national collections: the Orsay Museum, the National Museum of Hungary, the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Museo del Arte de Sao Paulo-Assis Chateaubriand, as well as private Japanese collectors and a number of American museums: The Museum of Modern Art de New York, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The J-P Morgan Library, The Guggenheim Museum, The Getty Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The National Gallery of Art of Washington D.C.

This ambitious exhibition will feature more than 130 works by Paul GAUGUIN, including some fifty paintings, sculptures, graphic works on paper, ceramics and others. French Polynesia, through the Te Fare Iamanaha - Musée de Tahiti et des Îles (MTI), has been asked to loan a selection of works from its collections: a wooden panel, three carved spoons and four objects from the Marquesas Islands: a pū taiana, an ivi po'o, a ti'i and a tāhi'i fan handle.

To accompany the event, a catalogue containing articles by a number of experts and authors, including Polynesians, will be published.

The Vice-President wishes to pursue a policy of regional cooperation, particularly in the cultural field. The government of French Polynesia has therefore expressed its interest in this exhibition, which will strengthen the links between Australia and French Polynesia, as well as between their respective cultural institutions.

The Vice-President, accompanied by a delegation of cultural representatives, will be present at the opening of the exhibition in Canberra on 27 June 2024, which the Australian Prime Minister, Hon. Anthony Albanese, is expected to attend. The Crafts Department has also been mobilised to organise the delivery of a selection of Polynesian arts and crafts to the NGA boutique, which will be stocked throughout the exhibition.

This event will give French Polynesia the opportunity to be represented on Australian soil, then in the United States of America, throughout 2024 and 2025.
