The Board of Adjustment, Building and Standards Commission and Sign Control which oversees structure permits and variations, building safety and sign permits shared a brief update on their activities over the past year.

In total, this board oversaw 6 cases within the last year to address requests to adjust City permitting and development code standards.

Child Abuse Prevention Month

Mayor Baine Brooks proclaimed April 2024 as Child Abuse Prevention Month to raise awareness and encourage all members of the community to unite for this cause. Members of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Collin County accepted the proclamation, and spoke about the importance of collaboration for this cause.

Allen CERT welcomes new director

The Allen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) appointed longtime member and Allen resident Chris Diltz as its new director.

This volunteer organization is trained to help their neighborhoods or workplaces following a catastrophic event that requires a large-scale response. CERT's training includes fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. Because of new internal systems Diltz implemented, many of these emergency tasks are carried out autonomously, helping to further ensure the safety of the community.

CERT was instrumental in the operation of Allen's community vaccine hub at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
