2024 property tax rates set by RMWB Council

RMWB Council approved the 2024 Property Tax Rate Bylaw at their April 23 meeting. For most property owners, the bylaw represents a small increase in their tax bills, while some residents may see a reduction depending on the assessed value of their property.

Property taxes support the municipal services and projects included in the approved operating and capital budgets. The property-tax rate is a proportion of the assessed value of a home or business that is paid to the municipality annually.

Property tax rate bylaw highlights:

  • Bylaw allows the Municipality to maintain some of the lowest tax rates in Alberta.
  • The Municipality is expected to collect just over $460M in municipal property taxes this year, which is same as the last year.
  • Ongoing commitment to fiscal responsibility and cost savings has resulted in a $306M reduction in property tax revenue since 2016.
  • The Municipality also collects education taxes on behalf of the Province- approximately $70M. Provincial government legislation requires that education receive funding through property taxes and all property owners are required to contribute, whether or not they have children attending school.
  • Programs such as the Tax Instalment Payment Plan and the Rural Small Business Tax Class are designed to support residents to manage their tax situation. To learn more about these programs visit rmwb.ca/taxes.
