Extremists and Election Deniers: At Nevada GOP Convention, Trump’s MAGA Allies Assemble Arrow

As members of the Nevada Republican Party gather for their state convention, DNC spokesperson Stephanie Justice released the following statement:

"As if the Nevada GOP wasn't already chock-full of extremists, Kash Patel and Scott Presler - two of Trump's MAGA cronies - are slated to convene with Nevada's Republicans this weekend. It's on brand for the Nevada GOP that the best they have to show for themselves are the state's top election deniers, a MAGA extremist who was on Capitol grounds during the January 6 insurrection, and someone who wants to 'come after' the media - and it only underlines to voters in the state that the Nevada Republican Party is too extreme and too out of touch for Nevadans."

The Nevada GOP is led by Michael McDonald, who wanted to steal the election for Donald Trump (who later praised him for his efforts)…

New York Times: "Donald Trump's Man in Nevada"

Politico: "In Nevada, six Republicans, including state GOP chair Michael McDonald, signed fake certificates on Dec. 14, 2020, falsely declaring themselves to be the state's duly appointed Electoral College representatives. Trump and his allies then invoked that slate of false electors, as well as similar slates in six other states, as they tried to block Congress' certification of the election results on Jan. 6, 2021."

The Hill: 'A tremendous man, tremendous guy, gets treated so unfairly, and he loves this country, and he loves this state: Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald,' Trump said at the rally, adding, 'He's a fantastic man. Thank you. Thank you, Michael.'"

… and under his leadership, the party has been full of chaos and extremism.

ProPublica: "Nevada Republicans' Caucus Adds Chaos and Confusion to the State's Presidential Primary"

The Nevada Independent: "Speaking during a Nevada Newsmakers interview broadcast Tuesday, [Governor Lombardo] said the dueling contests were 'detrimental to the candidates,' adding that the situation continues 'the chaos that is occurring within the Republican Party,' referring to the selection of a U.S. House speaker."

The Nevada Independent: "In 2020 and 2022, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and Nevada GOP made a well-publicized push to attract voters of color by opening several minority outreach centers in the Las Vegas Valley and across other swing states."

"But a Nevada Independent analysis found that those four locations are closed and now host other businesses. The Nevada GOP did not respond to multiple requests for comment about why the centers were closed or if they plan to re-open them."

Scott Presler is a far-right MAGA extremist who has peddled QAnon-fueled conspiracy theories and lies about the 2020 election, worked for an anti-Muslim hate group, and was literally on Capitol grounds during the January 6 insurrection.

NBC News: "[Presler] has a large online following and has helped spread a wide range of conspiracies, including about QAnon, in recent years. Presler was director for a group critical of Islam that organized 'March Against Sharia' protests and helped plan 'stop the steal' rallies ahead of Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol."

WCCO: "Presler, a Virginia native, planned several 'stop the steal' rallies in addition to being on the Capitol grounds the day of the insurrection. Presler also described the siege on the Capitol as 'the largest civil rights protest in American history.'"

Pennsylvania Capital-Star: "The Trump rally was organized by Scott Presler, formerly a paid organizer for the Virginia Republican Party, and a speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference this year. He called for an audit of the election results."

"Attendees, including Presler, repeated false claims of voter fraud in Michigan, stemming from a typo in results from a small county, according to the New York Times. Presler could not cite any examples of voter fraud in Pennsylvania."

Media Matters: "Media Matters previously documented that Presler promoted QAnon in dozens of instances on his Instagram account. Presler has also worked for the anti-Muslim group Act for America, which, The Associated Press wrote, 'is identified by the Anti-Defamation League as the largest anti-Muslim group in America.'"

Kash Patel promised a second Trump administration would 'come after' the media and prosecute journalists.

New York Times: "A New Trump Administration Will 'Come After' The Media, Says Kash Patel"

New York Times: "'We will go out and find the conspirators, not just in government but in the media,' Mr. Patel said. 'Yes, we're going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens, who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections - we're going to come after you. Whether it's criminally or civilly, we'll figure that out.'"
