Georgia DOT Awards Treutlen County $300,000 in Grant Funding
ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has approved an additional $300,000 in funding to Treutlen County to support a new industrial park entrance off State Route 56. The new road will be called Soperton Drive and will lead into the planned Georgia 16 Industrial Park and ContainerPlex.
"Freight on Georgia's roadways is expected to almost double by 2050 and the ContainerPlex in Treutlen County will play an important role in that future," said Georgia DOT Commissioner Russell R. McMurry, P.E.
State Representative Butch Parrish strongly supported the project and Georgia DOT's allocation of the additional funds to the county. "This funding will go a long way to support this project," said Rep. Parrish.
In Georgia's amended fiscal year 2024 budget, Governor Brian P. Kemp and the Georgia General Assembly allocated an additional $1.5 billion to Georgia DOT to speed planned roadwork and establish a freight infrastructure program. In addition, $250M was allocated to cities and counties to address their transportation infrastructure under the Local Roads Administration (LRA) program.
In addition to the $300,000 for Soperton Road, Treutlen County will receive an additional $435,780 of LRA funding for local projects identified by the county.
