Cold Lake, AB - Cold Lake Fire-Rescue took to the water for surface water rescue training.
At the start of May, CLFR held two, two-day training courses for firefighters to learn and practice water rescue operations on the Beaver River.
"This training has been in the works for a while and we were finally able to host it," said Fire Chief Jeff Fallow.
The training was performed by Trans-Care Rescue Ltd., and 20 members were able to participate. The course consisted of one day in a classroom setting, followed by a day in the water. The water training included boat operations; rescuing patients with boats; rescuing patients with a tethered rescuer, and rescuing patients with a throw bag.
This was the first opportunity for CLFR to train with their new inflatable rescue boats.
"Our members found the training to be very informative, as well as gained an appreciation for the intricacies of this kind of rescue," said Fallow.
