Michael Schmidt Joins Heritage Auctions’ Chicago Office as Consignment Director, Timepieces

Expert arrives armed with extensive background in vintage and modern timepieces

DALLAS, Texas (June 9, 2021) - Heritage Auctions has announced that Michael Schmidt, a leading expert in the field of timepieces, has joined its Chicago office as a Consignment Director, Timepieces.

'We are delighted to add someone with his knowledge and expertise to our Chicago office,' Heritage Auctions Watches & Fine Timepieces Director Jim Wolf said. 'Michael brings a wealth of experience with vintage and modern timepieces, and his arrival will help Heritage Auctions expand our footprint throughout the Midwest.'

The move means a homecoming for Schmidt, who grew up in Chicago. He comes to Heritage Auctions from Wanna Buy A Watch?, the Melrose Avenue institution that specializes in high-grade vintage and collectible timepieces with a focus on Rolex, Tudor, Patek Philippe, Cartier and Omega, where he was the store's manager. He previously spent 10 years as an independent estate timepiece broker and specialist in wholesale and internet retail sales of pre-owned and vintage luxury timepieces in Evanston, Ill., five years at Reis Nichols Jewelers in Indianapolis and a previous 11-year stint at Wanna Buy A Watch? in West Hollywood, Calif.

Schmidt, who holds degrees from Southern Illinois University and California Institute of the Arts, is a 15-year member of the International Watch & Jewelry Guild (IWJG) and a 25-year member of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors (NAWCC).
