ERIE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH PROVIDES COVID-19 DATA UPDATE FOR WEEK ENDING JUNE 12, 2021

ERIE COUNTY, NY - The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) is providing an update on COVID-19 data for the week ending June 12, 2021.

Information on Erie County COVID-19 hospitalizations is posted to the ECDOH Twitter and Facebook pages each weekday. With 40 COVID-19 hospitalizations reported in Erie County for June 13, 2021, hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Erie County have declined 60% in the past three weeks.

For the week ending June 12, 2021, ECDOH received reports for 113 new COVID-19 cases among Erie County residents. This is a 36% decrease from the previous week, and the lowest recorded weekly case total since the start of the pandemic. The case rate for total cases in the past seven days per 100,000 residents (case rate) also fell from 19 for the week ending June 5, to 12 for last week. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) set a case rate threshold of 10-49 for a community to be considered in a 'moderate transmission' level.

Although 28% of county residents live in the city of Buffalo, 56% of new cases last week were city of Buffalo residents. This is in contrast to the 41% of new cases associated with city of Buffalo residents for the week ending June 5. All ZIP codes in Erie County had 12 or fewer cases last week.

Total weekly COVID-19 cases and weekly positivity percentages have declined for nine consecutive weeks. All age categories have a seven-day case rate of under 30 per 100,000 persons. The only age group with a positivity percentage over 1% was the 14-17-year-old group at 1.5%. There were only 17 COVID-19 cases reported in Erie County this past week for residents age 60 and older.

Positive trends for cases among school-age children continue, with 24 COVID-19 cases managed by the epidemiology school team last week. This represents a sustained decline.

ECDOH is reporting COVID-19 mortality data. ECDOH received reports of six deaths associated with COVID-19 in the past seven days. The total deaths from March 2020 to June 10, 2021 now stand at 1,911, with 635 reported in 2021. Of the eight reported COVID-19 associated deaths in June 2021, the average age at death was 60 years, and none were fully immunized prior to infection.

Additional data, including vaccination estimates by ZIP code, are posted to the ECDOH web site. The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) updates demographic data for vaccination and by county each day. From NYSDOH data, as of June 14, 2021, 34% of 12-15-year-olds and 45% of 16-17-year-olds in Erie County have at least one vaccine dose.

ECDOH has an active schedule of COVID-19 vaccine clinics, listed at www.erie.gov/vax, and will also vaccinate any eligible Erie County resident at their home. Call (716) 858-2929 for the 'Vax Visit' program.
