Hillsboro's libraries will take turns closing for a few days in April 2024 for preventative maintenance and repairs, as well as a thorough cleaning of the facilities that together serve 617,022 visitors each year.

Brookwood Library will be closed Monday, April 15 through Friday, April 19.

Shute Park Library will be closed Monday, April 22 through Thursday, April 25.
Continuing Access
Library patrons will continue to have access to materials from the other Hillsboro location that will remain open, as well as
other WCCLS libraries in Washington County, Hidden Creek Community Center's NovelBranch Book Kiosk, the Book-O-Mat on the Civic Center Plaza in Downtown Hillsboro, and online library services such as
Kanopy and
Libby.
Any
material holds will be extended during each maintenance closure.
Improvements & Cleaning
While this is the first time Hillsboro's library buildings have shut down for maintenance, it is an annual occurrence at Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC) and the Hillsboro Community Senior Center.
The improvements will include:

Tuning and servicing HVAC units

Electrical & plumbing

Converting to LED lighting

Painting and refreshing spaces

Cleaning carpets and deep cleaning of the entire facilities

Security upgrades

Upgrades to public computers
Staff will continue working during the maintenance closure, including attending trainings, working on current projects and tasks to improve our services to the community, and preparing future programs.
About Hillsboro's Libraries
Originally opened in 1975,
Shute Park Library closed for about a year in 2013 while the City renovated and modernized the building. Reopened in March 2014, Shute Park Library is 15,000 square feet and contains nearly 45,000 books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and other Library items.
Brookwood Library opened in May 2007 and houses almost 240,000 items on two floors. With 72,000 square feet of space, there is still plenty of room for open spaces, study rooms, and conference rooms for patrons.
