The Boston Police Department Remembers the Service and Sacrifice of Officer Charles A. McNabb 55 Years Ago

BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Officer Charles McNabb who was killed in the line of duty 55 years ago. On Saturday, November 23, 1968, Officer McNabb was shot and killed in the area of 1202 Commonwealth Avenue in Allston.

McNabb, who was a 13-year veteran of the department, was 36-years-old at the time of his death. Making his passing ever more tragic is the fact that he left behind and was survived by a grieving wife and four children. Following in the footsteps of his father, his son, David, would join the Boston Police Department as a police officer in 1989.

Officer McNabb was laid to rest at New Calvary Cemetery in Mattapan.

His name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial: Panel 40, West Line 3, as well as, the Hero Wall located on the first floor of Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Downtown Boston.
