City to Begin Water Main Flushing Week of March 27

The City of Midland will begin its annual water main flushing program next week. Hydrants throughout the City will be systematically opened to clean mains and freshen the water within the City's distribution system. Flushing is expected to be completed in approximately 10 weeks.

Water main flushing is a normal and necessary part of maintaining a safe and reliable drinking water supply, but the process can result in temporarily discolored water. While not harmful, tap water may appear yellow or orange after flushing. If discolored water is drawn into the home, residents should flush a cold water tap for several minutes and avoid doing laundry until it runs clear.

The City's annual maintenance program helps ensure a high level of water quality by preventing corrosion and maintaining a proper disinfection residual. Information regarding daily flushing activities will be posted on the City's website at www.cityofmidlandmi.gov/flushing.
