A 17-year-old student at Gresham High School was arrested on the morning of Sept. 20 after threatening a pedestrian with a firearm and then bringing the weapon to school.
A community member contacted the GHS staff, saying they had been threatened by a person with a gun. The victim believed the suspect was a student at the school and had taken the weapon into the building. Staff were able to identify the student, contacted police, and moved the student to a secure area.
The student was cooperative with staff and police and admitted being armed. Responding officers recovered a firearm from the student. The student was taken into custody and the case was referred to the juvenile court.
Because of the student's age, no additional information is being released.
This incident is a good reminder of the need to speak up if you see a dangerous situation or suspicious incident, particularly at schools and other public venues.
