Just in time for summer, the Fort Worth Public Library is offering free workshops to help aspiring babysitters earn money or learn to better care for younger siblings.

Why it matters:The ABCs of Babysitting is designed to provide tweens and teens the tools they need to build confidence and find success. The four-hour program is being offered between June 5 and July 25 at six Fort Worth Public Library locations. Participants who complete the program will also receive a babysitting essentials tool kit to help launch their babysitting journey.

Go deeper: The best babysitters exercise skills in creativity, adventure and play - but that's not all. They also help keep the kids safe, soothe the occasional boo-boo and manage sometimes unruly behavior. Those roles are alongside that of entertaining, reading to and playing with children while retaining authority and not landing in the friend zone.

Safety tips will come from experts at Cook Children's Hospital. This program is made possible in part by community donations to the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation.
