Paolo Fresu Trio performing in Cyprus

On 23 June, in the picturesque village of Delikipos, the Italian Embassy in Nicosia in cooperation with Pharos Arts Foundation, a Cyprus-based music foundation, will host a concert with the Paolo Fresu Trio. Considered one of Italy's most renowned jazz artists, trumpeter Paolo Fresu has established himself in his field thanks to a musical prowess that has earned him countless awards and a prolific discography of over 400 recordings and collaborations with some of the world's leading artists.

Fresu, performing for the first time in Cyprus, is renowned for incorporating Mediterranean traits into his music, while his innovative techniques have expanded and redefined the boundaries of jazz. The recently formed Paolo Fresu Trio (also consisting of jazz pianist Dino Rubino and bassist Marco Bardoscia) harnesses the remarkable innate abilities of each of its members to create art and exude life. The scheduled concert draws on the unique cultural and historical ties between Cyprus and Sardinia, two islands not divided but rather united by the sea, belonging to the same Mediterranean civilisation that has inspired the music and art of countless artists since antiquity. Indeed, Fresu is the founder of Sardinia's Time in Jazz, a festival that for over 35 years has managed to transform the picturesque town of Berchidda into a vibrant hub of artistic expression. He has recently founded Insulae Lab, the first production centre for jazz music and artistic creativity in the Mediterranean, with the aim of fostering the exchange of artists and ideas, and enhancing their experiences, traditions and cultural identities. This continuous cultural and artistic workshop involves not only Sardinia but also other Mediterranean islands, and has so far extended to Sicily, Corsica, Malta, the Balearic Islands, France and now Cyprus.
