National Republicans Lose Top Recruit as Bill Schuette Bows Out of MI-08, Solidifying Dan Kildee’s Strength in the Race

National Republicans just lost out on a "big name to watch " in Michigan's 8th congressional district as Bill Schuette announced this morning he wouldn't be running for Congress. Despite losing his most recent campaign for governor by nearly 10 points, Schuette was a top recruit for National Republicans.

But it's no surprise why Schuette decided against losing another election. He knows that hardworking families across Mid-Michigan stand with Dan Kildee, who has delivered critical infrastructure investments, fought for clean drinking water, and worked to create jobs and economic opportunity.

DCCC Spokesperson Elena Kuhn
"Failed Republican candidate Bill Schuette refused to run in Michigan's 8th Congressional district because he and Michigan Republicans know that they're bound to lose to Dan Kildee come November."
