President Meloni meets with President of the Jacques Delors Institute, Enrico Letta

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met at Palazzo Chigi today with the President of the Jacques Delors Institute, Enrico Letta, who has been appointed by the Council of the European Union to draw up a high-level report on the future of the single market. The report will be submitted on April 17th at the informal European Council meeting in Brussels. Today's meeting forms part of Enrico Letta's tour of the 27 European capitals during the preparation stage of the report. The main aspects of Italy's position include the importance of supporting the competitiveness of European industry, eliminating the growth and innovation gap between Europe and its main competitors, and ensuring strategic autonomy in key sectors such as defence and the technology industry. Italy also believes it is necessary to: reduce the bureaucratic burden on companies by simplifying rules; review priorities regarding the green transition, paying attention to industry competitiveness and employment; relaunch cohesion policy on the basis of new and more efficient mechanisms. The meeting also addressed the issue of artificial intelligence, which is a challenge that Italy, as G7 Presidency, intends to take up in order to promote a human-centred approach to AI.
