BCPP improves 16-year high, PX index at 1,525.39 pts

Prague, April 2 (CTK) - The Prague Stock Exchange (BCPP) is still improving its nearly 16-year high, and the PX index gained 0.68 percent to 1,525.39 points, the highest closing value since June 24, 2008, the bourse said on its website.

The index closed above the 1,500-point mark for the first time since late June 2008 last Wednesday.

The market was pulled up mainly by shares of Austrian bank Erste and Czech bank Komercni banka. Energy company CEZ ended in the red.

"A day earlier, on June 23, 2008, the index hit 1,551.8 points," said Vladimir Vavra, a broker at Wood & Company.

Erste improved by 1.39 percent to Kc1,056.50 and Komercni banka rose by 1.31 percent to Kc851.

Austrian insurance company VIG posted a rise of 1.52 percent to Kc736 per share.

Arms manufacturer Colt closed 0.66 percent stronger at Kc614 apiece.

On the other hand, CEZ shares depreciated by 0.42 percent to Kc833.50.

Tobacco company Philip Morris fell by 0.13 percent to Kc15,800.

"A relatively significant drop was recorded by (pharmacy chain) Pilulka, whose shares decreased by 6.05 percent to Kc202," said Vavra.

Moneta Money Bank stayed unchanged at Kc102 per share.
