Monbat accepted for recycling all used batteries from the polar base “Sv. Kliment Ohridski” on Livingstone Island

Monbat AD has signed a contract with the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI), according to which the entire volume of used industrial batteries used for energy storage in the Bulgarian Antarctic base will be recycled. The batteries were transported by the return ship voyage of the scientific research ship "Sv. Sv. Cyril and Methodii" from the last polar expedition, together with other out-of-use equipment. More than 3.5 tons of used batteries were accepted for recycling, which over the years provided reliable and environmentally friendly solution for storage of energy produced by photovoltaic panels.

Monbat and BAI are long-lasting partners in the execution of the Bulgarian research program in Antarctic, whereas the manufacturer has been donating high-class industrial lead-acid batteries to ensure the normal electricity self-supply to the base and providing engineering and logistical support for system design and deployment.

Monbat batteries are demonstrating high operational characteristics, even though used under harsh conditions - long periods of downtime without recharging, low temperatures and specific operating modes.

The two parties declared that they will continue partnering in the construction of the new facility on Livingstone, whereas Monbat will supply ready-to-use battery energy storage systems (BESS), whose serial production has been started recently.
