WVMO Awarded 'Station of the Year'

In a dazzling ceremony held at the Madison Marriott West on May 4th, 400 representatives from radio and television stations across Wisconsin gathered for the prestigious 2024 Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards Gala. WVMO, affectionately known as "The Coolest Little Station In The Nation," triumphed for the fourth time in its eight-year history, securing the coveted 'Radio Station of the Year' award!

Amidst stiff competition from music stations in Madison and Milwaukee, WVMO stood out, bringing home a whopping twenty-one awards. The station, though modest in power at 100 watts, claimed seven third-place, nine second-place, and five first-place awards. Lindsay Wood Davis, a Monona resident and co-founder of WVMO, attributes this remarkable achievement to the station's core values: "WVMO remains steadfast in our commitment to being community-owned, locally-programmed, and volunteer-driven. This dedication allows us to deliver award-winning, hyper-local programming that our incredible volunteers craft for our listeners daily."

City of Monona Mary O'Connor was an alder when the station first hit the airwaves in 2015 with just a small group of volunteers. "I take great pride in the accomplishments of our station. Monona has always been a special community, and WVMO exemplifies this distinction. The passion and dedication of our volunteers is truly remarkable."

This year's competition was fiercer than ever, with 1,535 entries vying for recognition. A total of 120 stations participated, with entries evaluated by esteemed broadcasters from outside Wisconsin.
