A78 Wemyss Bay drainage improvements

Important information from trunk road operator Amey about drainage works on the A78 at Wemyss Bay from Monday 22 January-Friday 16 February 2024.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential drainage improvements on the A78 Wemyss Bay (Shore Road - Wemyss Bay Road Junction).

These drainage improvements form part of a wider package of improvement works for the area and will benefit around 11,700 vehicles using this route each day, by ensuring the continued safety and reliability of the road, while reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Between Monday 22nd Januaryand Friday 16th February 2024, the following traffic management will be in operation on a 24/7 basis:

  • 2- way temporary traffic lights on the A78 at Shore Road
  • Full closure of Wemyss Bay Road at the junction with A78 Shore Road

Works within this traffic management arrangement will take place during daytime hours only.

During this time, local traffic wishing to access Wemyss Bay Road will follow a signed diversion route that will take road users along Kishorn Road, Lomond Road, Castle Road, Undercliff Road (Private), and Wemyss Bay Road (Private).Local access to affected properties will be maintained throughout the duration of works.

Previous elements of improvements at this location since Autumn 2023 have included the widening of footways, improved and enhanced crossings at the Ardgowan Road junction, as well as the resurfacing of the mainline trunk road carriageway, carriageway surface patching at Knock Castle, and improved road linings on the A78.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
