PP&R to Make Improvements and Repairs to Washington Park Playground

New play equipment and structural enhancements coming soon; temporary closure will start April 15, 2024

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) will improve the popular children's playground in Washington Park. Repairs and improvements mean the playground will close on April 15, 2024, with a reopening expected on May 3. The improvements to the playground, which is a regional attraction, include new wood decking throughout the structure, a new tube slide, new spring toys, and new playground paneling.

The popular Washington Park playground is receiving needed repairs and play equipment improvements, thanks to Portland Parks & Recreation staff.

PP&R staff posted a closure notification on the week of March 18 and appreciate the public's patience as we work to restore this beloved and iconic park destination.

Washington Park is an important attraction and community space in Portland. This 410-acre park is home to the Oregon Zoo, World Forestry Center, Hoyt Arboretum, the world-famous International Rose Test Garden (often noted as the top free attraction in the state of Oregon), and the Portland Japanese Garden. Washington Park brings in an estimated 3.5 million visitors annually.
