OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF MALAYSIA

YB DATO' SERI DIRAJA DR. ZAMBRY ABDUL KADIR

TO THE DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SRI LANKA

9 TO 12 OCTOBER 2023

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, YB Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir will undertake an Official Visit to Colombo, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka from 9 to 12 October 2023. During the visit, YB Foreign Minister is scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, His Excellency Mohamed Uvais Mohamed Ali Sabry. The meeting will provide an excellent opportunity for both sides to further strengthen their long-standing bilateral relations as well as to explore new areas of cooperation of mutual interest.

YB Foreign Minister is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, the Honourable Dinesh Gunawardena, and an audience with the President of Sri Lanka, the Honourable Ranil Wickremesinghe.

YB Foreign Minister will also take the opportunity to hold an engagement session with the Sri Lankan business community to explore the economic potential between the two countries.

As part of YB Foreign Minister's official programme in Sri Lanka, he will also be attending the 23rd Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers Meeting (COM) on 11 October 2023.

The presence of YB Foreign Minister provides an impetus to strengthen Malaysia's regional cooperation within the Indian Ocean Rim and its extended region.

In 2022, Sri Lanka was Malaysia's 48th largest trading partner globally, with total trade amounting to RM3.78 billion (USD0.85 billion), an increase of 13.2 percent from RM3.34 billion (USD0.81 billion) recorded in 2021.
