Zoetis Announces Dr. Richard Goldstein as Global Chief Medical Officer and Head of Medical Affairs

Dr. Mike McFarland to retire after 24 years of dedicated service

PARSIPPANY, N.J. - March 21, 2024 - Zoetis Inc. (NYSE:ZTS) today announced the appointment of Dr. Richard Goldstein, DVM, DACVIM, DECVIM-CA as Global Chief Medical Officer and Head of Medical Affairs for Zoetis, effective immediately. Goldstein is board certified by the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is an internationally recognized expert in companion animal medicine. He joined Zoetis in 2018 and currently serves as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Global Diagnostics.

Goldstein succeeds current Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mike McFarland,DVM, DABVP, who will retire in June after 24 years of dedicated service. In this newly expanded role, Goldstein will be the foremost veterinary medical leader within Zoetis, providing medical guidance to leadership and fostering a unified direction among Zoetis' global veterinary community. He will also oversee the formation of a high-performing Global Medical Affairs team focused on modernizing medical operations and enhancing medical support globally.

Prior to Zoetis, Goldstein served as Chief Medical Officer of The Stephen & Christine Schwarzman Animal Center, the world's largest non-profit animal hospital. At The Animal Center, he was responsible for the oversight of all clinical activities and led a medical staff of over 80 veterinarians working across 17 specialized veterinary services in a 24/7 environment. He also oversaw the center's postgraduate education program. In addition, he was previously Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine with a research focus on infectious, renal, and genetic diseases. During that time, he worked closely with Zoetis as an external key opinion leader where he contributed to the development and launch of many of the company's companion animal vaccines and parasiticides.

During his tenure at Zoetis, Mike McFarland was instrumental in driving strong connections between science and care, elevating the animal health industry and veterinarians in the process. As a co-founder for the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management, he helped develop an in-depth certificate course on pain management for the World Small Animal Veterinary Association. He also co-founded the Human Animal Bond Research Institute, pioneering how the industry thinks about the transformative power of this bond.

Dr. Richard Goldstein, board certified by the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine, is an internationally recognized expert in companion animal medicine. He previously served as the Chief Medical Officer of the Animal Medical Center in New York City and as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine with a research focus on infectious, renal, and genetic diseases. Goldstein received his B.S. degree from the Institute of Biological Sciences, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and his DVM from Koret School of Veterinary Medicine, Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

A veterinarian for over 35 years, McFarland intimately understands the nature of the human-animal bond and the dedication of veterinary professionals. He spent 15 years in private practice as a companion animal veterinarian in Dallas, including five years as the Medical Director for one of the country's first after-hours emergency practices, before joining the corporate world in 2000. As Chief Medical Officer, he played a pivotal role in strengthening Zoetis' customer obsession, ensuring that customers' voices were heard, and helped educate veterinarians worldwide on how to care for animals with today's advanced products.

McFarland serves on the Board of Directors for American Humane and is a Founder, and President, of the Board of Trustees for the Human Animal Bond Research Institute. He received undergraduate degrees in Animal Science and Veterinary Science from Texas A&M University and his DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M.
