Fort Worth residents who meet income requirements can get free assistance filing their 2024 taxes at one of several Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) centers in our area.

What is VITA? VITA is a free service provided by the United Way of Tarrant County to any person or household with annual income of $67,000 or less. The program is provided through the City's Neighborhood Services Department and VITA sites are located at select Fort Worth libraries and these community centers: Greenbriar, Northside and Worth Heights. Services will be available starting Jan. 27.

What's included? Qualified users can schedule an in-person appointment with a VITA volunteer to:

  • Review their documents.
  • Complete their tax forms.
  • Understand what they may owe.
  • Ideally get the largest return possible!

What should I bring?

  • Photo ID.
  • Original Social Security card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for everyone listed on the tax return.
  • Copy of last year's tax return.
  • All W-2 wage statements for 2024.
  • SSA-1099, 1099-R and 1099-G.
  • Cash income amount and work expenses.
  • 1095 health coverage form.
  • Direct deposit information.

Additional perks: If you're interested, your VITA representative also can help enroll you in financial education and coaching opportunities or help you develop skills for the workforce.
