The Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues held the First Public Hearing in the current legislature on the topic: "Presentation of the Draft Law amending and modifying the Law on the Unified Electoral Roll, prepared by the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process ".
Committee Chairperson Milica Nikolic welcomed the members of the Committee, members of the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process, representatives of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Ministry of the Interior, Republic Electoral Commission, CRTA, Centre for Free Elections and Democracy and Transparency Serbia, as well as representatives of international organisations, namely the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, OSCE Mission to Serbia, Embassy of the United States of America and the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, who responded to the invitation to contribute to the successful consideration of the topic discussed at the public hearing.
The Committee Chairperson went on to mention articles 83 and 84 of the National Assembly Rules of Procedure, which relate to public hearings, as well as to Committee sessions at which the Decision on the Establishment of the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process, as well as the Decision amending the Decision on the Establishment of the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process, were adopted.
She pointed out that the Chairman of the Working Group, Nemanja Nenadic, had submitted, pursuant to item 6, paragraph 5 of the Decision on the Establishment of the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process, to the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues an act with two proposals for amendments to the Law on the Unified Electoral Roll, which received the highest number of votes, but did not receive the required majority for adoption. Their proposers are members of the Working Group, Pavle Dimitrijevic from CRTA and MP Ugljesa Mrdic.
Following the Committee Chairperson's introductory address, the proposers presented their draft laws on amendments to the Law on the Unified Electoral Roll, followed by a discussion on the acts presented.
After an exhaustive discussion, Committee Chairperson Milica Nikolic thanked all the participants of the public hearing who shared varied opinions on the draft laws on amendments to the Law on the Unified Electoral Roll, which, she hopes, will enter parliamentary procedure after the Committee's public hearings.
