Eversource Employees Gearing up for Hartford Marathon

Event is a family affair for one employee

BERLIN, Conn. - Whether their goal is to cross the finish line, encourage runners to get there or congratulate them when they do, more than two hundred Eversource employees are gearing up for race day - to run or volunteer. Among the roughly 150 Eversource employees running in the Eversource Hartford Marathon, or one of its other races that day, will be Eversource System Operations Procedures Writer Steven Tomczik, his wife and two of his five children. The foursome will be tackling the charity 5K - their third time running the race in as many years. For the Montville resident it's more than just a race, it's an opportunity to connect with his family.

"We've run races together before and it's great," said Tomczik. "Last year we ran in all the Eversource- sponsored races virtually and it's fun to get out there together."

Tomczik, his wife Tracy and daughters Abigail and Lily will take off from the starting line together but don't plan to see each other again until after they cross the finish line - at different times - especially since Abigail, his oldest daughter, runs cross country for Mitchell College and Lily plays lacrosse, soccer and runs indoor track for Montville High School.

"They're both great athletes, so we run at our own pace," added Tomczik. "The girls like to motor through the course and be tough on dad at the finish line then we partake in the festivities in Bushnell Park."

Thousands of runners from across the country and beyond will be joining Tomczik and his family for the Eversource Hartford Marathon. This is the eighth year Eversource has been the title sponsor of the Hartford Marathon. Races kick off near Bushnell Park in Hartford on Saturday, October 9 at 7:55 a.m.
