LCL Announces Winner of Card Design Contest for Teens

Published on April 05, 2024

Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) today announced Ellie Little as the winner of its Library Card Design Contest for Teens. Little's' winning design, entitled "Everyone Can Read Together," includes pairs of animals reading together. Little, age 14, said that her design was inspired by the welcoming atmosphere of the library, and by her love of reading with other people.

Lincoln and Lancaster County artists ages 12 to 18 were invited to submit artwork to appear on a new LCL library card. More than 100 artists submitted designs. A panel of judges comprised of LCL Youth and Teen Services librarians selected the top three finalists. The designs were then put to an online public vote.

"Our goal is to engage residents to design cards that reflect the unique qualities of our great community," said Traci Glass, LCL Assistant Director. "This contest is an opportunity for teen artists to showcase their talents and leave a lasting impression on our library system. Young people are real stakeholders in our libraries, and this is a chance for them to express what they love about their library and all it has to offer."

This is the second LCL card design contest. In August 2023, LCL announced the winner of a design contest for children up to age 11. A card design contest for adult residents is scheduled for summer 2024.
