Summer Roadwork Beginning on the Generals Highway in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

SEQUOIA AND KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARKS, Calif. July 5, 2022- Beginning on Monday, July 11, a road preservation project is scheduled along the Generals Highway, the road that connects Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The project will continue throughout the summer and fall. Short stretches of road will be sealed and resurfaced. If you encounter one of these construction zones, expect delays of up to 30 minutes during the day, and up to one hour at night. Road work will stop for the weekend on Fridays at 6 p.m. and resume on Sundays at 8 p.m.

The work schedule is as follows:

  • Monday - Thursday: 6 a.m. - 8 p.m.: 30-minute delays
  • Friday: 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. - 30-minute delays
  • Friday 6 p.m. - Sunday 8 p.m.: No delays
  • Monday - Friday: 8 p.m. - 6 a.m. One-hour delays

This is a large-scale, multiple-year project which is crucial for maintaining the main route of access through Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, driven by millions of visitors every year. The project will also include some parking lots and campgrounds. The parks thank visitors for their patience as this important work takes place.
