State-of-the-Art Electric Bus on Earth Day

Santa Maria Regional Transit (SMRT) is proud to announce the unveiling of its newest fleet of electric transit vehicles on Earth Day, April 22^nd. The delivery of four New Flyer Xcelsior 35-foot electric buses is another significant step for SMRT meeting its commitment to enhancing public transit options for northern Santa Barbara County.

Bought with the award of Federal funding, the new electric transit vehicles are loaded with advanced, rider-centric features aimed at enhancing the overall commuting experience. From new spacious interiors, health-promoting features, personal device charging capabilities, and to cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology, passengers can expect a more elevated transit experience for their commute.

"We are excited to introduce our new electric fleet on Earth Day and showcase our ongoing commitment to being a Smart City and Safe City," Transit Services Manager Gamaliel Anguiano said.

These four electric buses add to the two SMRT already has had in service since 2022, bring the total up to six. Ten more electric buses on their way later this year. The transition to electric buses has its many practical benefits of improved performance, upgraded rider experience, and reducing operating costs.

The unveiling event will take place at Santa Maria Regional Transit Center, 400 East Boone Street, between 2:30 and 4:00 p.m., feature a walk-through demonstration of the new electric vehicles as well as opportunities to learn more about SMRT's services.
