Moulton Statement on Iran’s Attack on Israel

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Seth Moulton (D-MA) issued the following statement after Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles into Israel last night.

"Last night, Iran risked sparking a catastrophic regional war when it launched an unprecedented series of direct, escalatory attacks on Israeli territory. Iran's evil regime murders its own people at home and innocents abroad, funding terrorist groups across the Middle East-from Hamas and Hezbollah to the Houthis and proxies in Iraq that have killed scores of U.S. troops.

Due to the overwhelming superiority of Israel's missile defense systems and the decisive action of our troops and other allies nearby, the attack was defeated. But we can't run the risk of another one succeeding in the future. Congress must come together to support a robust national security supplemental that includes defensive munitions for Israel's Iron Dome and David's Sling.

It is neither in America's national security interests, nor in Israel's, to escalate into a full regional war. As Israel weighs its next steps, it is critical that it remains focused on finishing its operations in Gaza and achieving a ceasefire-for-hostages deal-not on starting a new war while still having no endgame for their first.

To my GOP colleagues in the House who are blaming President Biden for these attacks, your inaction is what is actually putting Israel's and our own national security at risk-just like you have done by holding up Ukraine funding. Speaker Johnson should listen to our allies rather than unpatriotic extremists and bring the Senate-passed aid bill to a vote. It shouldn't be hard for the Republican Party to support democracies like Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan rather than catering to Russia, China, and insurrection-backing extremists in their own ranks."
