'ASEAN-Korea Trade and Investment Roundtable 2023' to Explore Opportunities for Economic Cooperation through Regional Strategies of ASEAN and Korea

The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary-General Kim Hae-yong) and Korea Institute forInternational Economic Policy (KIEP) will co-organize the 'ASEAN-Korea Tradeand Investment Roundtable 2023' on April 12,2023 under the theme of"ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) & Korea's Indo-Pacific Strategy."The Roundtable will take place in a hybrid format and will be live-streamedthrough the ASEAN-Korea Centre's YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/akcsns) at14:00 (KST). <_o3a_p>


Marking its third anniversary this year, the 'ASEAN-Korea Trade and InvestmentRoundtable' has served as a platform to share opinions on the practical aspectsand benefits of regional free trade agreements, such as the ASEAN-Korea FreeTrade Agreement (AKFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership(RCEP) to businesspeople and stakeholders of both ASEAN and Korea. This year,the Roundtable will focus on the regional strategies of ASEAN and Korea for theIndo-Pacific region through the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) aswell as ROK's Indo-Pacific Strategy which was announced during the ASEAN-ROKSummit last November. Specifically, the Roundtable aims to share up-to-dateinformation on the economic and trade outlooks and explore new opportunitiesfor economic cooperation between ASEAN and Korea within the Indo-Pacificframework. <_o3a_p>

Deputy Secretary General Satvinder Singh of ASEAN Economic Community at the ASEANSecretariat, and Director Kwak Sungil of Korea Institute for InternationalEconomic Policy (KIEP) will make presentations as keynote speakers to share howthe AOIP and ROK's Indo-Pacific Strategy can provide opportunities enhancing partnershipsbetween ASEAN and Korea and further contribute to regional growth. In thefollowing discussion sessions, 4 experts from Korea Institute for IndustrialEconomics & Trade (KIET), KIEP, ASEAN Secretariat and Economic ResearchInstitute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) will also exchange views and discuss waysto explore synergies through cooperation in ▲digital trade, ▲climate change,and ▲supply chain, which are some of the strategic sectors prioritized by bothASEAN and Korea. <_o3a_p>

Secretary General Kim Hae-yong of ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that "the Roundtable is timelyand meaningful as discussions on tangible and practical economic cooperationefforts based on the context of regional strategies such as AOIP and ROK'sIndo-Pacific Strategy are in need for both ASEAN and Korea, especially in themidst of global uncertainty and economic slowdown after COVID-19." He alsoadded that "the Roundtable could provide insights for the businesspeople ofASEAN and Korea to discover potential business opportunities therebycontributing to strengthening the ASEAN-Korea partnership as a whole.
