Winter Storm Warning; Power Outages & Dangerous Road Conditions

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area through Thursday morning. Periods of light rain, freezing drizzle and freezing rain are expected to continue throughout the area through Thursday. According to NWS, significant ice accumulation impacts are considered likely over the Hill Country and Central Texas. Total ice accumulations of about one-half inch are possible.

Power outages are occurring throughout the area due to heavy icing on trees, affecting homes and traffic signals. Power crews are out fixing the issues as they pop up. If you need a warm place to stay due to an extended outage, please contact the Lakeway Police Department at (512) 261-2800. Stay prepared for the possibility of power outages as the coating of ice continues to cause limbs to bend and break. Make sure to have a working flashlight, extra blankets, as well as food and water readily available.

Hazardous travel conditions expected through early Thursday. Please avoid area roadways. Sagging limbs will also be an issue on area roads. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. If you are involved in an accident, be aware of your surroundings and remain in your vehicle until help arrives. Other vehicles could become a hazard in icy conditions.
