Roebourne streetscape enhancements on the way

Monday 25 September 2023

The main streets of Roebourne will receive a significant rejuvenation after the Council awarded the tender for the construction of the first two phases of the Roebourne Streetscape Masterplan as part of its vision to invigorate the town centre.

The Masterplan which has been developed in consultation with the community and was endorsed by Council in July 2022 is a transformative project aimed at enhancing the streets of Roebourne and creating an inclusive space with links to the Harding River (Ngurin) and through town.

The first two stages of the Masterplan will see upgrades and activation to Queen, Withnell, Padbury and Wellard Street intersections, together with the infill activation for the extent between Withnell and Wellard Streets.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said he was delighted to award the tender for the construction of the streetscape plan and looked forward to on the ground works commencing early in 2024.

"This is a fantastic project that will transform the streets of Roebourne and Council is excited for the works to begin," Cr Long said.

"These initial stages form part of the City's long-term goal to invigorate the town centre streetscape."

"Council's vision for this project is to strengthen links to existing natural assets such as the Ngurin, enhance amenities as well as encouraging cultural expression in the townsite."

"The City will now work with the contractor to plan for the delivery of works and procure and fabricate long lead items before construction begins in the road reserve on site early in the new year," Cr Long said.

The first phase of the projects is supported by Rio Tinto and Woodside.
