Grassley Delivers 14 Iowa Veterans' Stories to Library of Congress

WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) delivered 14 recorded interviews and documents to the Library of Congress from Iowa veterans, who recalled their time serving in the U.S. Armed Forces for inclusion in the Veterans History Project. In November, Grassley's office hosted a Veterans History Project event at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum, where students and faculty from St. Ambrose University and Eastern Iowa Community Colleges helped interview veterans about their experiences. To date, Grassley's office has submitted 83 Iowa veterans' stories to the Library of Congress.

"We all ought to learn from and appreciate those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. I'm grateful these courageous and patriotic Iowans participated in the project and that their stories will be preserved for posterity in the Library of Congress," Grassley said. "Thank you to every veteran who has fought for our nation. Your service has ensured peace and prosperity for generations of Americans."

Background:

Congress in 2000 established the Veterans History Project to preserve and make accessible U.S. veterans' life and wartime experiences. The educational project helps generations better understand military service and the realities of war.

Iowa veterans who would like to share their stories for inclusion with the project should contact Grassley's Veterans Fellow at [email protected] or Grassley's Des Moines office at (515) 288-1145. Grassley's office will release information on the Cedar Rapids Veterans History Project event in the fall.
