Coffee & Books

Come for the books, stay for the coffee.

By Carolyn DeBerard

Have you ever wanted to join a book club, but you're unsure where to start or what kind of time commitment it would be? Maybe you want the thrill of chatting about books with potential new friends, but don't want to spend the money on a new book every month. Well, the Lewiston Library has the perfect solution for you!

Coffee & Books is our in-house book club, open to patrons interested in reading some good stories and having a bit of lively and delightful conversation, held at 10AM on the first Friday of each month in our upstairs Makery space. Our book club discusses books from an array of genres such as Historical and General Fiction, Suspense, Non-fiction, Fantasy, and even a few Young Adult and Classic novels just for fun! And you don't have to worry about buying a copy of each month's selection; all titles are selected with availability through the library in mind. They can be put on hold from participating Valnet libraries and checked out with your library card, and some are even available on Libby!

If you're looking for a way to meet some new people, have a cup of coffee and just chat for an hour or so, join us! Coffee, tea, and good conversations are provided, but please feel free to bring your own if you like. Here's a look at our line-up for the coming months' discussions:

  • April - The Secret of the Old Clock (Nancy Drew #1) by Carolyn Keene
  • May 3: Read Dangerously by Azar Nafisi
  • June 7: Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler
  • July 5: Wild Game: My Mother, Her Secret, and Me by Adrienne Brodeur
