Bilateral relation with Georgia - Meeting of Foreign Ministers

Foreign Minister Diana Mondino - accompanied by the Chief of Staff of Ministers, Nicolás Posse - held a meeting with her counterpart from Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, in the first visit by a foreign minister from that country to Argentina since 2015.

At the meeting, the officials pointed out the excellent bilateral bond based on shared values and highlighted the clearly positive balance of diplomatic relations 32 years after their establishment.

The Georgian Minister expressed his gratitude to the Argentine officials, recalling that our country was the first to recognize the independence of the Democratic Republic of Georgia in 1919. Likewise, he expressed his intention to deepen cooperation with Argentina and to position Georgia as a reliable partner in the region. In addition, he made reference to both the economic growth that his country experienced and the importance assigned to European integration.

Next, both Ministers signed an agreement on the exercise of remunerated activities by family members of the Diplomatic Mission, Consular Office and Permanent Mission.

Finally, a commemorative ceremony was held in recognition of Georgian independence, in which Foreign Minister Mondino presented a digitized file with information archived in the Foreign Ministry accounting for Argentina's recognition of Georgia as an independent country and the beginning of diplomatic relations, including a copy of Decree 114 of September 15, 1919, signed by President Hipólito Yrigoyen.
