Larson Statement Following Social Security Subcommittee Hearing on WEP/GPO

Washington, D.C. - Today, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after the Social Security Subcommittee held a hearing on the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).

"I am committed to repealing WEP/GPO and paying for it through a comprehensive approach that extends the Trust Fund's solvency and enhances benefits for all Social Security beneficiaries," said Larson. "The Social Security 2100 Act, which I introduced with nearly 200 House Democrats last year, does exactly that by heeding President Biden's call to 'scrap the cap' on income above $400,000, ensuring the wealthiest one percent pay into Social Security with each and every paycheck like the vast majority of working Americans. Rather than cutting benefits or harming the Social Security Trust Fund, Social Security 2100 will provide much-needed benefit enhancements, ensure the Social Security Trust Funds are protected, and give teachers, police, and firefighters the relief they deserve. It's time for Congress to act!"
