5 Ways to Celebrate Clean Air Day

It's time we cleared the air. Literally.Join us in celebrating Clean Air Day on Oct. 2 and take the pledge to create cleaner air in our communities.

California Clean Air Day was started by the Coalition for Clean Air, a nonprofit that urges individuals and organizations to take simple actions to improve air quality and public health.

Test yourself: Which actions do you think matter the most when you want to make a difference in reducing air pollution? Is our air cleaner when you:

a) Walk, e-bike or take a scooter to your destination.

b) Test drive, rent or purchase an electric vehicle.

c) Switch to electric or hand-powered yard tools.

d) Take the California Clean Air Pledge on Oct. 2.

e) All of the above.

Pat yourself on the back if you chose "e".

Electric lawn and garden equipment produce no emissions and are quieter than gas-powered tools.

While great progress has been made in improving air quality over the years, working to reduce air pollution still matters. According to the Coalition for Clean Air:

  • Over 16,000 Americans die of lung cancer each year, even though they have never smoked.
  • Asthma cases are up 75% in the U.S. since 1980.
  • Air pollution leads to 1 million school absences each year across the state.

Edison International, parent company of Southern California Edison, is a proud sponsor of California Clean Air Day and encourages communities to take simple yet powerful actions for Clean Air Day and all year long.

By making small changes like carpooling, planting a garden and installing solar panels, you can truly help communities breathe a little easier.
