The 2024 Lord-Lieutenant’s Young Person of the Year Awards are officially open
The Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire has launched his 2024 awards designed to showcase and celebrate the achievements of young people aged 13 to 19 across the city and county.
Family, friends, teachers, and other professionals and community leaders who see the best the young people of Leicester and Leicestershire have to offer are being urged to nominate inspiring young people in their communities for this year's Lord-Lieutenant's Award.
The four categories for this year aim to celebrate the very best examples of effort and achievement. People can nominate for Young Person of Courage, Young Volunteer, Young Leader, and Young Artist.
Every year I hold an event to celebrate the achievements of our exceptional young people across the city and county. This is an opportunity for us all to come together to recognise their individual talents and the outstanding contributions they make to their local communities.
Please show your support for my awards by nominating the amazing young people you know. Help me and my award panel show them all how much we appreciate their efforts and how highly they are valued by their friends, families and communities.
The closing date for this year's nominations is 16 February 2024.
The award scheme is open to all 13 to 19-year-olds. Nominations can be made by other young people, their school, parent or carer, as well as any other agency or individual.
For more information about the awards, visit the Lord-Lieutenant's Awards web page for top tips on completing the nomination. Alternatively, members of the awards panel will be manning a stall in Highcross in Leicester between 11am and 4pm on Monday 15 January 2024, where more information will be available about the scheme and how to nominate a young person.
A panel of judges, which will include young people and is chaired by Deputy Lieutenant Sally Bowie, will consider all nominations meeting the criteria for the award. The judges will shortlist three young finalists in each category of the award.
The finalists will each receive a framed certificate together with a prize.
Category winners will be announced at the ceremony - each winner receiving a prize to the value of £500.
The overall Lord-Lieutenant's Young Person of the Year also receives a special trophy.
The finalists and their parents or guardians will be invited to a special 'red carpet' awards evening and dinner, hosted by the Lord-Lieutenant, to be held next year.
