Providing opportunity to CQUniversity students - CQUniversity

By Isis Symes

BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is proud to support the communities in which it operates and in 2023 more than twenty CQUniversity students benefited from its generous contributions.

Late last year, three CQUniCares BHP Indigenous Scholars graduated at the Bundaberg campus and three BMA Community Scholars graduated at the Rockhampton ceremony.

Graduates included Paris Eggmolesse (Bachelor of Occupational Therapy - Honours), Olivia Eriksen (Bachelor of Nursing), Consuela Morrice (Bachelor of Social Work - Honours), Rebecca Hugo (Bachelor of Speech Pathology - Honours), Charmaine Hanns (Bachelor of Nursing) and Grace Deeley (Bachelor of Medical Imaging).

CQUniversityDeputy Director of Philanthropy Francois Gallais said the University was thankful for the support of BMA.

"BHP and BMA have been long-standing scholarship-providers of CQU and we are incredibly appreciative of the support they have givento our students over the many years of our partnership," Mr Gallais said.

"Through their backing we have been able to award scholarships to hundreds of students from a variety of study areas over the years, providing them with much-needed financial support and contributing to their study successes.

"CQUniversity is grateful to partner with an organisation like BMA who share the University's passion for making a difference in the lives of our students, their families and our communities."

Mr Gallais said as Australia continued to experience widespread skills shortages, it was great to see that the 2023 BMA scholarship-recipient graduates had completed degrees in high-demand roles such as health.

"Thanks to the support of BMA, those graduates will go on to fill the most-needed positions in our nation's current workforces."

BMA Asset President Adam Lancey said they are proud to support CQUniversity students and the region.

"Students who live and study locally are more likely to stay and work in the region after they finish their studies," he said.

"This is important as it helps address the skills shortages and contributes to building thriving and empowered communities across the Bowen Basin."

More than 20 CQUniversity students are expected to be supported by BMA-funded scholarships in 2024.
