GBS receives BBF funding for research project on AI-powered cybersecurity

The cybersecurity company GBS is pleased to announce the funding of a research project by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The goal of the ambitious research project is to develop a centralized, holistic protection for communication and collaboration systems through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Thereby, the GBS team focuses once again on innovation as one of the main pillars for the continuous advancing and upgrading of its solutions to ensure the highest level of cybersecurity.

In recent years, AI has gained significant momentum and is widely used in various technologies, applications, virtual assistants, chatbots, and so on. However, the rapid proliferation of AI has brought not only legal and ethical challenges, but also serious security vulnerabilities. Just as companies and people use it to improve their work and services, criminals exploit it to make their attacks even more successful.

The best way to counter AI-based cyberthreats is through the use of AI-based security technology. Every day, hackers discover a new way to harness the power of AI to collect sensitive data, create extremely convincing phishing and highly potent ransomware. To prevent this, technology is needed that can adapt instantly, analyze and detect vulnerabilities faster so they can be eliminated before they are exploited.

We have already integrated content recognition based on a machine learning approach into our iQ.Suite for email spam checking with the Core Engine many years ago. In the context of the new research project, we now want to provide newer AI approaches for the holistic protection of communication and collaboration systems," comments Dr. Rolf Kremer, R&D Manager at GBS.

Adopting the Research and Development Tax Incentive Act (FZulG; BGBl I p. 2763) in 2020, Germany is seeking to stimulate the research and development activities of companies, especially SMEs. Research funding is reviewed by the Research Grant Certification Office (Bescheinigungsstelle Forschungszulage - BSFZ) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research through an interdisciplinary team of scientific experts. As proof of their innovation competence, the funded institutions receive the right to use the BSFZ logo.
