Caribbean digital creators to participate in France's PIDS-Enghien 2024 Festival, with support from UNESCO Transcultura

Five young visual effects professionals from the Caribbean will travel to France to take part in the tenth edition of the PIDS Enghien International Visual Effects Festival, which will take place from 31 January to 3 February 2024 in the city of Enghien-les-Bains. The artists' participation will be possible thanks to the support of the UNESCO programme Transcultura: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity, funded by the European Union.

Selected through an open call, the young professionals come from five different Caribbean countries: Bronwen Forman, from Belize; Amed Bueno, from Cuba; Jeure José Tavare Taveras, from the Dominican Republic; Floréal Wilkens, from Haiti; and Tajha Tianna Winkle, from Jamaica. It is the first time the Caribbean will be participating in this prestigious festival for visual effects and digital animation.

PIDS-Enghien is an event created by the Enghien-les-Bains Arts Centre dedicated to visual effects that addresses the creative, technical and economic challenges of a sector in constant evolution. In the 2023 edition, it brought together more than 2,200 participants, broadcasted some twenty conferences and hosted major figures in the world of visual effects.

This initiative will provide Caribbean digital creators working in the film industry with high visibility in the European market through a programme of multiple activities that will provide them with more professional tools and connections for their career development. It will include interaction with a specialised and general audience, as well as exposure to their works through a booth and open access to presentations, job fairs and film screenings.

With 15 million euros in funding from the European Union, the UNESCO Transcultura programme promotes opportunities for young Caribbean artists and cultural professionals through training, entrepreneurship, networking, cultural exchange and access to new markets.
