Census Bureau and PRB Seek Steering Committee Members for Data User Groups

MARCH 12 - In partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau, the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) is soliciting applications for membership on two separate steering committees to help us plan activities for engaging data users. PRB is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit research organization focused on improving people's health and well-being through evidence-based policies and practices. PRB has been a long-term partner to the Census Bureau, helping to inform and educate the data user community about the importance and valueof data from the American Community Survey (ACS) and the decennial census.

  • The American Community Survey Data Users Group (ACS DUG) Steering Committee will have approximately 10-12 members who provide feedback to PRB and the Census Bureau on ACS-related activities (e.g., data user events, bi-annual ACS Data User Conferences, and data user surveys), data products, dissemination channels, and/or methods. This ongoing exchange will help the Census Bureau develop innovative data products and dissemination tools that best meet ACS data users' needs. Each year, committee members will participate in four virtual meetings. During the first year, there is the potential for one hybrid meeting.
  • The new Decennial Census Data Users Group (Decennial DUG) Steering Committee will have approximately 10-12 members who will help guide the development of a new online community forum. This forum will enable decennial census data users to discuss matters related to decennial census data products. During the first year, committee members will participate in monthly virtual meetings to assist with defining the scope of the new online community forum, website design, and implementation strategy. Following the first year, committee members will participate in the release and monitoring of the new online forum.

Both groups will be informal and nonadvisory and, as such, will not provide the Census Bureau with recommendations resulting from group deliberation or discussion.

We are seeking enthusiastic, hands-on data users to serve on these committees and anticipate 3-year terms for members to promote continuity of group discussions.

If you are interested in being considered for membership on either committee, please complete the application. Selected applicants will be chosen for just one committee, and you may indicate your preference of committee for consideration. PRB will collect all applications and will make selections for membership for both DUG Steering Committees.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, April 4, 2024. PRB will notify applicants regarding the selection decisions byTuesday, April 23, 2024.

If you have questions about the DUG Steering Committees or the application process, please contact Beth Jarosz, senior program director in U.S. Programs at PRB, at <[email protected]> or Diana Elliott, vice president of U.S. Programs at PRB, at<[email protected]>.
