Office of Inclusive Excellence Launches New Speaker Series

The Office of Inclusive Excellence recently kicked off a new Kellogg Legacy Inclusive Excellence Speaker Series, starting with an inaugural event co-hosted with the Office of Student Success featuring Common Read author Heather McGhee. The speaker series will continue throughout the academic year to encourage discussion and reflection on equity, diversity, inclusion and other related subjects.

"I'm excited to officially launch the Kellogg Legacy Inclusive Excellence Speaker Series," said Cindy Pickett, presidential associate for inclusion and chief diversity officer. "I encourage our entire campus community to take advantage of these opportunities to come together and engage in some of the most important topics in our world today."

McGhee's book, "The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together," dives into the financial cost of racism to our society.

Free Speech Expert Coming in March

The next event in the series will be a conversation on free speech, how to combat hate speech, and the tensions campuses face when navigating the First Amendment.

Author and law professor Nadine Strossen will speak on March 19 at noon in the Bronco Student Center. Visit the Inclusive Excellence website to register for the event by March 10.

"Nadine is one of the leading experts in free speech, and we are thrilled to provide our students, faculty and staff with the opportunity to learn from her, ask questions and discuss this important and timely subject," Pickett said.

Strossen is a professor emerita at New York Law School and served as the national president of the American Civil Liberties Union from 1991 to 2008. She is currently a senior fellow with the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression and has testified before Congress multiple times. She is the author of "HATE: Why We Should Resist It with Free Speech, Not Censorship" (2018) and "Free Speech: What Everyone Needs to Know" (2023).
